Overview

On this course, students will learn about the major determinants of individuals and communities health and gain the great knowledge and skills necessary to plan, deliver and evaluate innovative health promotion interventions.

Key topic areas will include determinants of health, surveillance and assessment of the population’s health and wellbeing, assessing the evidence of effectiveness of interventions, programmes and services along with leadership and collaborative working.

Assessment

The course will use a variety of teaching and learning styles that includes traditional face-to-face and online distance learning.

 

There is a variety of assessment tools employed through the course, supported by the general principle of mixed mode formative and summative assessments. These include: group presentations, practical reports and reviews, online discussions and essays.

 

Transferable skills have been embedded in the learning outcomes of the course modules. It includes formative assessment, so that students can test and assess their own performance before handing in or presenting work.

 

The BSc includes a practice-based project based on the student’s own area of practice.

Entry requirements

Application based on previous qualifications:

If you are applying based on your previous qualifications, you will usually have achieved a minimum of 90 credits from a Level 3 qualification such as A Levels or BTECs.

Mature learner 21+:

If you are applying as a mature learner (aged 21+) and do not have the above qualifications, you can apply via our partner's assessment based entry and they will consider your prior experiences (work, voluntary, life and other experiences) that are relevant to the course.

The following will be required to complete:

1. Provide a Personal Statement

2. English Language Test (with a minimum 70% score, equivalent to IELTS 6.0)

3. Maths Test (Score 50%)

4. Complete a SAPE Assessment (Screening for Accreditation of Prior Experience)

5. Applicants will also be invited to attend an Interview.

This course has been designed for those planning to work in the health promotion and public health arena, as well as individuals who have a public health and health promotion remit within their current role.
