About the Role

We work with children and young people aged between 4 and 19 years of age, The Special Needs Schools, Colleges and Provisions we work with cater for those with complex learning difficulties including autism and other sensory impairments, some children have challenging behaviours.


Working within Special Needs can be extremely rewarding, but equally challenging working with pupils that may have suffered significant trauma and require help with personal care.


Your main duties will include:

  • Offer support for students before, during and after lessons

  • ï‚·Assist students to understand and participate in set tasks

  • Help promote each students love of learning

  • ï‚·Join team meetings and training programmes as an active member of a team

  • ï‚·Follow regulations pertaining to safeguarding

  • ï‚·Where required, supporting individual needs including assisting with a wide range of medical and occasionally personal care tasks as necessary and providing physical support where needed (training will be provided in giving medical care and support)

  • ï‚·Inspiring and engaging with children with a range of additional learning needs

  • ï‚·Working on a 1:1 to or group basis to support learning

  • ï‚·Assisting with the personal care needs of pupils; this may include feeding, changing and manual handling (TRAINING PROVIDED BY SCHOOL)

Requirements

To be considered to work with us within Special Educational Needs experience of working within a School, College or Provision would be desirable.


However, many candidates we help find work do not have any experience – they do however have some of the following:

  • ï‚·Child Care Experience – either personal or professionallyï‚·

  • Special needs experience – either via family, friends or professionally

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and a caring attitude

  • ï‚·An undergraduate degree, and/or prior experience working alongside pupils with SEND

  • ï‚·Good general education levels in English and Maths

  • Flexibility in terms of working patterns

  • ï‚·A willingness to learn and an enthusiastic approach
